India’s National Hydroelectric Power Corp (NHPC,) intends to add 150 MW of solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity in partnership with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), as per NHPC spokesperson.
The project is part of state-run NHPC’s goal to expand its renewable energy capacity, the company’s chairman and managing director Balraj Joshi was cited as saying during a meeting with Indian power minister R K Singh. He noted that the hydropower generation group has commissioned a 50-MW wind farm in Rajasthan and is working on the installation of a 50-MW solar plant in Tamil Nadu under an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) deal with Larsen & Toubro Ltd.
According to the report, NHPC currently has 25 projects totalling 14 GW at different stages of development, including hydropower, solar and thermal power generation.
