The rooftop of the mechanical engineering department of NIT-K, Surathkal, which got a vertical extension on Friday, will be dedicated for solar research. The power generated here will be utilized for running electronic gadgets in the building.
The newly constructed building will be turned into a research lab on solar energy. The equipment which is currently housed in other buildings will be re-commissioned in the vast rooftop. The research will be on improving solar power efficiency with an aim to exploit it commercially in later stages.
