The Government of India recently announced Zero Investment Solar Policy/ RESCO Policy, where the entire system will be owned by M/s Azure Power Rooftop One Private Limited and Dr BR Ambedkar NIT Jalandhar will consume the electricity generated.
A Power Purchase Agreement of 0.998 MW has been signed between NIT Jalandhar and M/s Azure Power Rooftop One Private Limitedunder the RESCO Policy. Electric power supply to NIT Jalandhar will be at the rate of Rs 3.32/unit. It will reduce the expenditure on electricity by approximately Rs 60 lakh annually that will help in research and academic activities.
This project was sanctioned by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, New Delhi, through SECI, New Delhi. Solar photovoltaic cell is used for the production of electricity. It is a green technology, which reduces pollution. Renewable energy in India has so far been dependent on subsidies given by the government. But after the Paris agreement, since India committed to setting up 175 GW of renewable energy till 2022, there has been the emergence of RESCO Solar Model of PV installation.
Factors such as frequent power cuts, increasing prices of conventional power, high irradiation and the falling costs of solar are driving the demand in the Roof Top Market. On the occasion, Dr Lalit Kumar Awasthi, Director NIT Jalandhar, Dr S P Singh, Dr Dilbag Singh, Dr Rohit Mehra, Registrar, Dr Pramod Kumar, Dr Anish Sachdeva and Harpreet Singh, Estate Officer were present.
