Phase III of ‘Swachh Iconic Places’ (SIP) Launched

The Union Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, on June 12, 2018 launched the Phase III of ‘Swachh Iconic Places’ (SIP) under PM Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Mission.

The Swachh Iconic Places (SIP) project was envisioned by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi under the Swachh Bharat Mission and is being coordinated by the Union Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation with the support of State governments and local administration.

SIP is a collaborative project with three other central Ministries: Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Ministry of Culture and Ministry of Tourism. It also involves local administrations in the concerned States and Public Sector and Private Companies as sponsoring partners. The goal of the Initiative is to improve the cleanliness conditions at these places to a distinctly higher level.

The iconic sites of Phase I and II saw notable transformations such as improved sewage infrastructure, drainage facilities, installation of Sewage Treatment Plant, improved sanitation facilities, Water ATMs, Solid and Liquid Waste Management, structure restoration, roads maintenance and so on.

The Ministry also launched ten new iconic sites under the third phase of the flagship Swachh Iconic Places project.
