A total of 456 deals worth $123.6 billion in sectors such as green energy, green food and tourism have been signed during the just concluded China-South Asia Expo in southwest China’s Yunnan Province.
There were 260 companies this year from India — a big jump from last year’s 175.
The companies had come here under the auspices of the Federation of Indian Exports Organisation (FIEO) and the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC), which foresee huge potential for exports in the near future.
According to Consul General of India in Guangzhou, Y K Sailas Thangal, Yunnan could be a good example for North-eastern Indian states to follow for economic progress, especially agriculture-based industry.
The India-China bilateral trade rose by 18.63 per cent to $84.44 billion last year.
A rare novelty of the bilateral trade otherwise dominated by Chinese exports was about 40 per cent increase of Indian exports to China in 2017 totalling to $16.34 billion.
Yunnan is a border province in southwest China and a gateway to Southeast Asia and South Asia. It is building itself into a frontier in China’s new round of opening up.
More than 3,800 companies from 87 countries and regions attended the week-long exposition that concluded on Wednesday.
