BYD Joins CharIN For Standardizing Charging Interface

BYD has joined the Charging Interface Initiative (CharIN) as part of a unified push to standardize electric vehicle charging systems, alongside ABB, Tesla, BMW, FCA, Ford, GM, VW Group, Daimler, Toyota, Subaru, Mazda, NEVS, Tritium, Shell, and more.

The move shows BYD’s support of global standards for charging plug-in vehicles as the coalition continues to refine the Combined Charging System (CCS) charging standard.

CCS was designed as an open, universal and internationally flexible charging system for electric vehicles that takes into account international standards. Building and scaling up charging infrastructure based on a single standard ensures maximum compatibility between current vehicles and chargers as well as the ability to persist through future innovation as new vehicles capable of faster charging speeds hit the market.

CCS is currently the world’s only charging system that covers all charging scenarios with a single product, and BYD support of CCS will help pave the way for more efficient transportation solutions.

BYD also offers the widest range of battery-electric heavy-duty trucks in the US market, as well as a variety of Class 6, 7, and 8 trucks. BYD currently offers customers its proprietary AC charging system or a CCS compliant charging system to meet the specific needs of fleet operators around the world.

In addition to the CharIN membership, BYD is also pushing to advance plug-in vehicle charging standardization by participating in the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and International Organization for Standardization (ISO).
