An Year On…Bio-Gas Bus Still Waiting For Trial Run

Kadamba Transport Corporation Ltd (KTCL), Goa, had purchased a 36-seater multi-axle bio-gas fuel based bus for trial run an year back but due to non availability of bio-gas the bus is still waiting…

The Corporation has asked Scania India Pvt Ltd, who was suppose to install the bio-gas plant a year back, to procure biogas from a company approved by the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO) to run the bus on a trial basis as the company is facing hurdles in getting licence from the district collector to carry and run bus on biogas as it is considered to be explosive gas under the Explosives Rules, 1983.

But procuring gas from outside state will inflate the cost.

Earlier there was a plan to use the bio fuel generated at the solid waste management plant located at Saligao for powering the bus. But again the state-of-the-art solid waste treatment plant at Saligao does not have refinery and purification unit to supply biogas of 90 per cent purity to run buses.

So it seems that there is no plan in site to begin a trial run of bio-gas based bus in near future… :o(
