Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), the country’s largest fuel retailer on World Bio-fuel day laid the foundation stone of the firm’s five tonne Biomethanation (waste-to-biogas) plant, being set-up at the fuel retailers Research and Development (R&D) facility at Faridabad.
The plant being built at the cost of Rs 3.5 crore will be able to process five tonne of segregated organic waste daily and will convert it into 250 Kg of bio-gas (Bio-CNG) and 450 Kg of bio-manure. 250 Kg of bio-gas is equivalent to 18-20 LPG cylinders.
The gas will be provided to ISKCON, Faridabad, who provide free mid-day meal to school children and the bio-manure will be provided to Municipal Corporation of Faridabad and Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran. The plant should be operational in 2019.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi while inaugurating Bio-Fuel Day, organized by the Oil Ministry said that the government under the Gobar Dhan scheme is working towards construction of Bio-gas/ Bio-CNG plants in every district and around 700 Bio-CNG plants are in various stages of construction across the nation.
