Celebrating An Eco-Freindly Ganesh Chathurthi

The Calangute panchayat has made around 400 clay Ganesh idols available in a bid to celebrate an eco-freindly Ganesh Chathurthi.

The initiative was inaugurated by deputy speaker and Calangute MLA Michael Lobo, on Saturday. “Last year, we managed to convince about 30% people to use the clay idols we made available to them, instead of purchasing plaster of Paris (PoP) idols. This year, we hope at least 75% will pick up these natural idols,” deputy sarpanch Sudesh Mayekar, said.

Priced between Rs 1,800 and Rs 6,000, they can be purchased from the village’s government primary school.
