Sunil K. Singh, Head Sales (Solar), HPL Electric & Power Ltd. explains to Clean Future the natural transition of HPL from the leading manufacturers of energy equipment’s to one of the major component suppliers for Renewable Energy segment.
What inspired HPL to enter into Renewable sector?
When the solar boom happened in our country, we being one of the leading manufacturers of energy equipment decided to expand our portfolio in to this new segment, aligning our vision with PM Modi’s “Make In India” initiative. Today we are the only company in India that is a ‘one stop shop’ for Balance Of System (BOS) products which form an essential component of a solar power plant. BOS encompasses all components of a photovoltaic system other than the photovoltaic panels.
Why did you choose to pick Solar Energy to enter this sector?
As mentioned earlier, we were already manufacturing DC, MCBs, Solar cable etc and when the boom happened it was the natural and logical path to take especially when India’s top Energy Experts were predicting a great time for renewable energy in India.
Can you please explain your in-house capabilities?
We are one of the largest manufacturers of Energy Meters especially Net Meters; even before BIS certifications was made mandatory we have very strict quality checks in-house which will ensure that our components work for the full life of solar power plant.
We have two R&D centers, with over 100 engineers, which have been approved by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India and several state DISCOMs across the country.
Our product portfolio includes metering solutions, switch-gears, lighting equipment and wires and cables. We have robust manufacturing facilities in Haryana and Himachal Pradesh.
What are your key offerings and how would you distinct yourself from the competition?
We have developed the largest range of standardized Junction boxes and Distribution boxes for renewable energy segment, which was till recently dominated by local players. Further our range of net meters and solar cables make us a ‘one stop shop’ for the Balance of Systems components thus making us a preferred partner for major EPC’s.
Plans are afloat to develop a chain of retail outlets across the country to sell “Over the counter” solar products. A part from solar panel, PCU and battery we manufacture all the BOS components which is done by no other company in India under one roof. This is what differentiates us from our competitors.
What have been your major installations till date?
We do not get directly involved with the installation process but are the preferred partner of all the EPC’s for their BOS components requirements.
Some of the major installations in which we are the preferred vendor for the winning bidders are-
- Supplying energy efficient LED Lights to Developers of Bhopal Smart City project and Assighat Lighting project in Varanasi.
- Supplying Solar cables for various Adani Solar Projects
- Supplying BOS Components to Easy Solar Solutions company in J&K,Bihar and Jharkhand and to UNEECOPS Technologies for BPCL Solar Project
What is the road-map for the company and where does it expects to be in the year 2018?
We aim to be the No.1 company in BOS in times to come. 2018 will be a stepping stone in that direction as we have recently moved to renewable energy segment.
