A 500-kg capacity biogas plant to convert wet waste into cooking gas and compost was inaugurated here in Sector 30 on Friday. A first in the city, the plant was set up with joint efforts of the Noida Authority and the local Resident Welfare Association (RWA).
The biomethanation plant has the capacity of converting up to 500 kg of wet waste from homes into cooking gas. 95 per cent funding of the biogas plant has been provided by the authority.
The total cost of the plant is approximately Rs 20 lakh from which the Noida authority has funded 19 lakh while rest 1 lakh has been funded by RWA.
The private agency, which has set up the plant, has also been entrusted with the responsibility of collecting waste from each household in Sector 30 so that dumpyards under the authority would only have solid waste thus making the management of waste items easier.
