GE Will Triple Solar & Battery Storage Production In India

General Electric (GE), a US multinational corporation, plans to triple its solar and battery energy storage manufacturing capacity in India to 9 GW per year by the end of 2022. The capacity increase is being driven by recent substantial increases in backlog and a healthy demand expectation.

The news comes four months after the company opened its Renewable Hybrids production facility in Vallam, Tamil Nadu, near Chennai.

The Vallam facility produces General Electric’s FlexInverter (previously known as LV5+) power conversion technology and the FlexReservoir utility-scale energy storage solution. It also aids in the integration of these technologies with General Electric FlexIQ digital platform in order to meet customers’ demands for dispatchable, green MWhs in solar, storage, and hybrid applications.

The FlexReservoir is scalable from 3 MW to 500+ MW in order to satisfy diverse market applications.

For utility-scale solar and storage applications, the FlexInverter power station provides a dependable, cost-effective, plug-and-play, factory-integrated power conversion platform.

It integrates a solar inverter, a medium voltage power transformer, and an optional MV Ring Main Unit into a typical 20-foot high cube container.

Solar and battery energy storage will continue to play an important role in producing hybrid systems that enable the energy transition. To fulfill the increased customer demand for hybrids, General Electric is offering cutting-edge technology like as power conversion systems and software-enabled controls.
