Mercedes-Benz Energy and Lohum are happy to announce a multi-year supply contract arrangement for second-life batteries as part of a strategic relationship. Lohum is Mercedes-Benz Energy’s first Asian partner, as both firms strive for sustainability across the battery supply chain.

They have agreed to a minimum off-take schedule of 50MWh per annum across different 2nd life module types as part of this deal.

Lohumis developing second life solutions particularly for the Indian stationary and non-auto mobility storage sectors. Low-power uses such as the electric rickshaw are examples of mobility applications, whereas stationary applications range from small 6KWh batteries to massive 1MWh storage systems.

The company is creating a long-term supply funnel by establishing knowledge and applications across numerous module types.

Furthermore, when these second-life modules approach the end of their useful life, Lohum offers a buy-back guarantee to recycle them through its hydromet facility. Both firms believe that, whenever feasible, 2nd life combined with recycling is the greatest long-term option for sustainability and profit development.
