Infosys has made remarkable strides in constructing renewable energy resources, witnessing a remarkable surge in the proportion of renewables utilized for their electricity consumption. As of the conclusion of the year 2022-23, the share of renewables has escalated to an impressive 57.9%, a substantial leap from the preceding figure of 43.7% five years ago and a remarkable advancement from the mere 22% witnessed a decade ago.
In the company’s most recent ESG Report for the years 2022-23, a comprehensive account is provided of the organization’s multifaceted endeavors and notable advancements in matters pertaining to the environment, society, and governance throughout the preceding year.
With a formidable aggregate capacity of 60 MW in solar energy, encompassing the 40 MW captive installation situated in the prominent Sira region of Tumakuru district plus an impressive 14.4 MW of rooftop panels adorns their offices scattered nationwide, alongside the commendable inclusion of ground-mount panels.
Apart from its own investments in renewables, Infosys buys green energy from third-party producers. Its Hyderabad and Bhubaneswar facilities source renewable energy using the green tariff mechanism available to commercial and industrial consumers.
With the capacity to process 10 tonnes of waste per day and generate an impressive 58,189 cubic metres of biogas – equivalent to roughly 25,000 kg of LPG gas cylinder – the biogas plants owned by this company have taken a major step forward in diverting mixed waste from landfills.
In fact, in the year 2023 alone, they managed to divert an impressive 90% of such waste across their multiple locations in India, all in pursuit of their ultimate goal of achieving zero waste to landfill by the year 2030.
The report reveals that approximately one-third of the corporation’s endeavors are dedicated to addressing the issue of climate change. Infosys has implemented measures to recycle 100% of its wastewater on its premises, and has constructed 39 lakes with a combined capacity of 426 million liters to store rainwater.
In spite of Infosys’ steadfast commitment to investing in the installation of clean energy sources, the company remains cognizant of the inescapable emissions stemming from business travel and employee commute, which have yet to be counterbalanced in order to attain carbon neutrality.
