Tesla’s FSD Beta Pre-Installation: A Sign of Things to Come

Tesla owners and enthusiasts can rejoice as reports emerge that the Full Self-Driving (FSD) beta is now being delivered preinstalled in vehicles. This means that buyers of the FSD software can immediately use the feature without having to wait for a software update, which could take weeks.

This shift to preinstallation suggests that Tesla is moving to a single-build release for its vehicles, a significant operational shift for the company. All vehicles would be released with the same software version, regardless of when they were purchased.

The importance of this news is amplified by speculation that it may tie into Tesla’s plans for the next version of the FSD system. In April, Elon Musk boldly claimed that Tesla would achieve full autonomy by the end of the year, though his timelines have a history of being ambitious. Musk also hinted that FSD v12 would mark the end of its beta phase, promising substantial functionality improvements.

In August, Musk provided a sneak peek into FSD v12’s capabilities through a live-streamed demonstration, showcasing the system’s advancements as he allowed his vehicle to navigate Palo Alto, California. As Tesla continues to refine and enhance its Full Self-Driving capabilities, these latest changes reflect the company’s commitment to advancing the future of autonomous driving technology.
