The Indian government is accelerating its push towards Green Hydrogen leadership with a new funding scheme. This initiative aims to bridge the gap in testing infrastructure and propel the burgeoning sector forward.

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) announced a ₹200 crore (US$24 million) scheme for the period 2024-26. This focuses on establishing and upgrading testing facilities across India. The goal? Ensure safe, efficient, and secure operations of Green Hydrogen technologies.

The scheme emphasizes meeting rigorous national and international standards. The National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE) will act as the implementing agency, managing applications and project execution.

NISE will issue Calls for Proposals (CfP) to identify projects for building or enhancing testing facilities. Funding will be distributed in stages: 20% upon selection, 70% at specific milestones, and the final 10% after project completion.

But wait, there’s more! A Project Appraisal Committee ensures projects align with the mission’s goals through strict monitoring and evaluation. Failure to meet deadlines or objectives could lead to funding cancellation.

This is a clear message: the government is serious. Stringent oversight ensures efficient use of funds.

“This strategic investment underlines our commitment to advancing India’s capabilities in Green Hydrogen,” stated the MNRE release. The vision? To position India as a global leader in this future-critical sector.
