India’s clean energy ambitions received a major boost with the inauguration of the country’s first green hydrogen production plant. Tecnimont Private Limited, partnered with NEXTCHEM, a sustainability-focused technology provider, to make this clean energy dream a reality.

Located in Vijaipur, Madhya Pradesh, this groundbreaking project – awarded in May 2022 – positions GAIL (India) Limited as a frontrunner in large-scale green hydrogen production.

The facility boasts a 10 MW electrolysis capacity, generating an impressive 4.3 tonnes of green hydrogen daily. The hydrogen is produced using renewable energy sources, making it a clean and sustainable alternative to traditional hydrogen production methods.

This success story doesn’t end there. NEXTCHEM plans to leverage the Vijaipur plant as a springboard for further exploration of clean energy transition opportunities in India.

Furthermore, in December 2022, NTPC Limited signed a non-binding MoU with Tecnimont Private Limited. This collaboration aims to jointly evaluate and potentially develop a commercial-scale green methanol production facility at an NTPC project in India. Green methanol is another clean fuel option with vast potential.

These advancements pave the way for significant reductions in carbon emissions and a more sustainable energy ecosystem for India.
