Is Tesla’s Self-Driving A Myth?

Elon Musk’s decade-long promise of autonomous driving through Tesla has yet to materialize. The company’s “Full Self-Driving” (FSD) software, despite its misleading name, has been a subject of intense scrutiny due to numerous safety incidents.

Recent revelations by Truist Securities analyst William Stein have further cast doubt on Tesla’s claims. William Stein, who holds a neutral stance on Tesla stock, personally tested FSD and found it dangerously inadequate.

During his drive, the system failed to react to a near-collision and even missed cues from a police officer. These shortcomings echo a growing body of evidence, including fatal accidents and a government investigation, highlighting FSD’s unpreparedness for real-world conditions.

Despite repeated updates and a hefty price tag of $8000, the software continues to struggle with basic driving tasks. Musk’s unwavering confidence in the technology is at odds with the reality. His ambitious robotaxi project, reliant on FSD, faces significant hurdles including regulatory approval.

While Tesla’s advancements in electric vehicles are undeniable, its full self-driving ambitions appear to be far from fruition. The company’s persistent over-promises and under-deliveries in this area raise serious concerns about the safety of its customers and the credibility of its leadership.
