Amara Raja Infra Pioneering Green Hydrogen in Leh

Amara Raja Infra, part of the $2 billion Amara Raja Group, built India’s first green hydrogen fueling station in Leh, Ladakh, for NTPC Ltd. Notably, the project was completed in two years and marks a key step in India’s move toward sustainable energy and green mobility. Consequently, this achievement demonstrates India’s commitment to advancing clean energy solutions.

The station sits at 3,400 meters above sea level and faces extreme climates, with temperatures from -25°C to 30°C. It has the capacity to produce 80 kilograms of green hydrogen daily.

NTPC will deploy five hydrogen-powered fuel cell buses to offer zero-emission public transportation in Leh and surrounding areas. This move places India among the global pioneers in green mobility.

The project involved comprehensive work, including designing, engineering, procurement, construction, testing, and commissioning of the station. Additionally, Amara Raja Infra will oversee three years of operational and maintenance services, ensuring the seamless functionality of the system.

This project supports India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission and paves the way for larger green hydrogen initiatives. It will serve as a model for setting up hydrogen fueling stations across the country, helping India achieve its clean energy goals.

The project underscores the potential of hydrogen as a sustainable energy source, contributing to India’s net-zero emission targets by 2070.
