World’s 1st! Jakson Green Builds India’s Flue Gas-to-Ethanol Plant

India has taken a significant leap forward in clean energy with the announcement of the world’s first flue gas CO2-to-4G ethanol project for a power plant. Jakson Green has been awarded the critical role of Licensing, Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (LEPC) partner for this groundbreaking initiative.

NETRA (NTPC Energy Technology Research Alliance) conceptualized and designed this project, which is expected to be operational within two years. Located in Lara, Chhattisgarh, the plant aims to produce a remarkable 10 tons per day (TPD) of 4G ethanol, a major advancement in the clean energy sector.

The plant will utilize Veolia Carbon Clean’s cutting-edge carbon capture technology to capture 25 TPD of CO2 from flue gas, significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, a 7.5 MW electrolyzer will generate 3 TPD of green hydrogen.

LanzaTech Inc.’s advanced microbial fermentation technology will then combine these captured emissions and generated hydrogen.This innovative process transforms these inputs into valuable 4G ethanol.

Jakson Green’s involvement in this project further solidifies their position as a frontrunner in India’s green energy sector. With over 8,500 TPA of green hydrogen and its derivatives planned for production across six major Power-to-X projects, the company will spearhead India’s clean energy transition and contribute to a more sustainable future.

However, challenges may lie ahead. The large-scale implementation of such novel technologies often requires navigating regulatory hurdles and ensuring public acceptance. Nonetheless, this project represents a significant step forward for India’s clean energy ambitions.
