In March and April, there will be a spring flood in Polesie, which will become the main character of a new film by Belarusian cinematographers.
Every year, water comes to this area, sweeping away haystacks, farm buildings, and sometimes huts from its path.
Polesie, its fate, its past and future are the care of worries, pain and hope of the heroes of the picture. The history of the village of Knyazbor, as a focus, will reflect the full variety of problems associated with the drainage of Polesie. From time immemorial, during floods, this village stood in the water for a long time. The beginning of extensive irrigation work has dramatically changed the life of the region, opened up new perspectives and raised many issues that everyone has to solve — from the minister to the ordinary collective farmer.
"Let's replay the scene again," director Vitaly Chetverikov addresses the performers. An episode is currently being filmed when Pavel Komov, the head of the SMU, and Matvey Roeda, the director of the state farm, clashed in a heated argument. And now, for the umpteenth time, Matthew abruptly slams the door and bursts into the room.
— Did you submit an application on the sly? — he's advancing on Pavel. But he did not flinch, did not break off in an answering cry, but, as if he had thought about something for a long time, said:
"I don't intend to be your shadow."
"We have a case,— Matvey was pacing the room. — You know, the case!
"I might as well work in another neighborhood," Pavel replied with a poorly controlled challenge. — There's a swamp, there's a swamp. What's there to dry, what's there...
This dialogue takes place between friends from college. Now there is a crack in their relationship. Everyone's position has its own rightness, the characters are ambiguous. Actor Vladimir Shelestov, who plays Pavel, portrays his character as a conscientious but meticulous man who is accustomed to following instructions in everything. Matvey Roeda's nature is also contradictory. He is played by Auris Babkauskas, the son of the famous Lithuanian actor Bronius Babkauskas, who starred a lot on Belarusfilm in the last years of his life. It is no coincidence that Babkauskas Jr. made his debut at the same studio in the film "Sons Go into Battle" directed by V. Turov.
— The main thing in the character of my hero, — says Auris, — is a huge dedication to his favorite business. However, Matvey prefers the shortest way to achieve the goal, which does not always turn out to be the surest...
Fighting with swamps, he sometimes did not spare clean lakes, stepping on bushes, and did not stop in front of centuries-old forests. Yes, he drained seven hundred hectares of swamps in a short time, where the arable land is now, but isn't the price of this victory too high?
— Our film, — V. Chetverikov enters into the conversation, — tells about the events of the recent past, when the active development of the Belarusian Polesie, which occupies almost a third of the territory of the republic, began. This is a task of great national importance. The previously dead lands began to yield rich harvests. But diverting water is not the solution to the problem: you need to learn how to regulate the water balance. If you overdo it here, the lands will turn into a desert, dust storms will go for a walk through the open spaces, sand will appear under the fertile layer.
The film, the script of which was written by V. Adamchik, V. Kozko and F. Konev, will lead a serious conversation about a reasonable degree of interference in the life of nature, about human responsibility for every step on earth.
The tape operator is Yu. Marukhin, the artist A. Chertovich. https://bisabo.com/
